Cobra CISS–End To Cartridge Servitude

Friday, March 25th, 2011

I got my new CISS printer!

It is an Epson WF 1100 outfitted with a Cobra Ink CISS system. No more empty expensive cartridges!

When the ink gets low, you can see it in the external 50ml tank. You merely get out your bottle of the appropriate color and refill the tank.  Plus it is a wide format printer (11 x 17) .  I got pigment inks to do inkjet transfers.

I got a vinyl cutter!

What does that do? Well, it cuts vinyl into logos, text and graphics which can them be applied on vehicles, windows, laptops and other suitable surfaces. You can also cut stencils for fabric and silkscreening (I used to do that by hand), rhinestone application and many other things which I haven’t even fully explored.

It was a monumental two day process to get the machine to work, but that was due to my ignorance of Coreldraw and the vagueness of the driver software included with the cutter ( a GCC Expert 24).

Now I am cutting things for my co-workers as practice. I made “Harley Gurl” and “Marilyn Lives” for  two of the dispatchers.

It’s fun–I learn more with each little project I start.

Next week, the CISS pigment ink printer arrives!
